Deep diving

Lava Portal from Public Films on Vimeo.

With the help of a superb editor named Eddie, Paul Janman and I have made a promotional clip for Lava Portal, one of the nine chapters of our movie about the secret history of Auckland's Great South Road and its environs.

    Morena Scott,

I'm still collating together any details I can find about Pakeha who joined or assisted Maori in the 1860s, but that's as far as that project's gone, and details are few and far between. I wrote a crass article called 'Pakeha Rebels' some time back, but I wouldn't bother reading that.

Between paid work and fatherhood, I'm currently working on a cultural history of rugby league in New Zealand. I'm conducting oral history interviews at the moment.

A friend of mine is writing an excellent MA about the culture of the freezing works and the workers' union, particular discussing Tomoana and Southdown. He could be worth following up for your film project. Flick me an email if you want his address - ryankb@gmail.com

    Cheers, Ryan.
