I have just read Robert Fisk's latest article for the Independent, 'The Age of Terror - a landmark report'. In it Fisk looks back over his 30 years experience of reporting the Middle East, covering war and death, and lays out a bleak future for us all.
If reading his mammoth book, 'The Great War for Civilisation' is a bit daunting, this latest article will give you a shorter overview of his thinking. In his book and this recent article you get the feeling that Fisk is disillusioned with western journalists. He says that they need to have more courage in reporting what's really going on, and give a bit more of the 'why' we got to where we are, so that their reportage can achieve some historical context.
