Gringos get paranoid

I couldn't resist posting this map of 'New Mexico', which comes from the blog of a recent visitor to this site. Like the photoshopped flagpole pic I posted yesterday, it reflects the paranoia that a section of US society and a section of the US blogosphere is feeling, in the wake of the strikes and protests that made this year's May Day one to remember. The Roman Catholic Church and the Democratic Party are in typical 'blame the victim' mode, warning of a 'backlash' over the protests, while Republican Congressmen, let alone the fringes of their party, feel able to make the most outrageously racist accusations against the marchers and strikes. There are chilling echoes here of the demonisation of black civil rights campaigners in the 1950s and 60s. More on this later...
